Writing
Our approach to writing is to develop children who are adaptable authors who have the stamina and skills to write and express themselves. Development is gradual and well-sequenced from mark-making in Reception to structured and rule-based writing in Year 2. There is a strong emphasis on phonics-based spelling and accurate handwriting. We build towards independent writing using spelling rules, correct punctuation, and legible presentation.
We ensure that children are provided with exciting lessons that are carefully sequenced in order to build on their knowledge and understanding of writing. Learning is regularly revisited through cross-curricular lessons to help children become secure with skills.
